A total of 9,28,543 candidates have been registered for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2015.
Out of which 6,52,704 are male, and 2,75,699 are female candidates have been recorded. The number of candidates registered for the GATE 2015 is less the number of applicants registered for GATE 2015. As per the reports, 1,05,082 less in number of candidates registered for GATE 2015, compared to 2014
According to the sources, when Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) started recruitment through GATE. Then the number of candidates appearing for the GATE increased to 10 lakh in 2014. Fact that most of the students were happier and hoped that they would get a good career in PSUs. On the other side, only a few disciplines candidates were asked for recruitment in PSUs. It also has been reported that candidates should have to score excellent marks in GATE exam to get an interview call from PSUs. GATE 2015 has shown a consistent demand for Mechanical Engineering students by the PSUs. This is said to be one of the reasons behind the increase in a number of ME candidates for GATE 2015. It has been reported that there is the plan to include more PSUs under the recruitment scheme. One more reason for the dip in a number of candidates appearing for the GATE 2015 is the number of seats available for admission in IITs is very less than the number of the candidates appearing for the exam. The pass percentage in the GATE exam is very low. In 2014, around 16.84% of students had cleared the exam. Figures show that, GATE is one of the toughest entrance exams. GATE 2015 exam would be held from January 31 to February 14, 2015.
